Where to eat near Rivonia: our family’s picks

Every evening a guest asks us the same question: where should we eat tonight? These are the places we send them, from a coffee shop down the road to a special night out. Times are by car from the lodge in Rivonia.

Close by: 5 minutes

  • Motherland Coffee, Rivonia: coffee and breakfast, a 5-minute walk from the lodge. Handy if you miss breakfast.
  • Saigon, Rivonia Junction: Vietnamese. After a long flight, a bowl of pho here is perfect.
  • Yamada, Rivonia Junction: sushi bar with an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet.

Rivonia Village, with shops and a bank, is 5 minutes away. You can walk there during the day.

Morningside: 10 minutes

  • Tashas, Morningside Shopping Centre: café and restaurant.
  • Pomodoro, Morningside Shopping Centre: Italian.

Sandton: 15 minutes

Nelson Mandela Square is next to Sandton City, so you can shop before dinner.

Worth the drive

  • Marble, Rosebank (25 min): South African fire cooking.
  • The 11th Floor, Bedfordview (25 min): fine dining. Book ahead.
  • Carnivore, Muldersdrift (30 min): game meat.
